Consumer Critiques
Purchased this in America after a long wait. I have a BB Torch and was searching forward to email sync without a 3G contract.
I wanted a device that would enable drag and drop file transfer, potential to view PDF, PPT, Word and XL documents - it really is not genuinely a tool to edit these, but viewing on the superb screen is superb. I wanted a better internet encounter than with the Torch, but do not count on Google Chrome efficiency. I wanted a camera that would let me to take photographs during presentations and conference poster sessions.
I wanted a thing quick and portable - the greatest tablet is the one particular you carry with you.
I am not that bothered by Apps and do not play games. I do listen to music and already have my Torch sync'ed to iTunes.
So it delivers on these fronts and for that I am extremely pleased. I can view my substantial reference collection at the touch of a button, answer emails and BBM.
Now the unfinished component...
Amazingly, for a "expert tablet", it did not come with a File Manager So I have 1400 files listed in alphabetical order every single time I open Adobe reader. This has been fixed with a very really good App for £4.99, but definitely, what a faux pas!
None of the file viewers cater for file structures, regardless of them being present when mounted on my laptop and viewable via the File Manager App. I anticipate that will come with upgrades.
The keyboard is good to kind on but needs some cursor keys. The web browser could do with a scroll gesture to move down the screen.
I had to upgrade BBM on my Torch, to make it run by way of the BB Bridge interface, but that seems to be operating fine now.
It really is pretty difficult on battery life. I bought the devoted stand-charger and it stays on this all night. My USB ports don't seriously give enough umph to charge the Playbook.
General, I am delighted. Minor bugs aside, and the internet browser has a handful of, I feel it provides precisely what I wanted. I didn't want an iPad, I wanted a thing more flexible. I didn't want Apps, but I did want access to pdf files. If this sounds like what you are soon after, then you will not be (too) disappointed either.
I completely count on the expertise to increase in time
I purchased this final week in the New Year sale (Not on Amazon I may possibly add). I purchased the 32gb with an eye to future storage capabilities and this combined with a dropbox account provides excellemnt coverage. It it an excellent well built and seriously optimum sized tablet. I bought it to go with my perform Blackberry and as an iphone user can honestly say I was surprised and is considerably greater than the critiques would lead you to think.
The tablet is due a big update in the subsequent weight weeks but this is coming for some time so fingers crossed as this will need to finally give it a seperate e-mail and contacts client. Also the update need to give android compatibility and allow an expansion in apps. As some other reviewers have mentioned at the moment the apps are slightly over rates compared to other tablets and Angry Birds is especially so - But if I want that will use my iphone thanks. If the android compatibility works and opens up a lot of other potentuial this could be a true wise get but do your homework as I did and be conscious of what it can do as it is not either an ipad or a larger version of an android phone.
I am certainly shocked and glad to have picked it up soon after all £199 + £10 cashback you can not go wrong.
Wishes:
1. Some form of multimedia dock with remote.
2. Cheaper native BB apps
three. A BB Playbook Kindle app - AMAZON ARE YOU LISTENING
4. A good offline news reader eg Readit Later pro
